Product Description

Signal Tracer (AE 494 )

The SIGNAL TRACER is a solid square wave tracer. It test two signals

  • Modulated R.F. input for trouble shooting in TV receivers
  •   Square wave audio input for trouble shooting in Radio receivers and Audio equipments.  Input level of the instrument is variable.

  • The modulated R.F signal can be used for tracing faults in the VHF (TUNER) stages, I.F. picture stages and I.F sound stages of TV receivers and in the HF and IF section of FM receivers.

The AF square wave signal can be used to locate and tracing in Audio amplifiers of PA or music systems. AF amplifier stages of Radio and TV receivers.

Versatile Audio and Visual Signal Tracing

The Signal Tracer offers both visual and audio indicators, simplifying the process of identifying and diagnosing faults in circuits. It supports headphone and speaker output, so you can choose the most effective way to monitor traced signals. With its high input impedance and precise analog meter, you can confidently work on a broad range of audio and RF applications.

Designed for Portability and Efficiency

This equipment is compact and handheld, weighing only 1.5 kg, and can be powered either by a 9V battery or via 220V AC, making it suitable for both field and lab use. The overload protected input and robust build ensure reliable operation under challenging test conditions and in environments with humidity up to 85% RH.

FAQs of Signal Tracer:

Q: How do I use the Signal Tracer for troubleshooting audio circuits?

A: To use the Signal Tracer, connect the shielded probe and crocodile clips to the circuit under test. Power on the device (via battery or AC adapter), and trace the signal path. Observe the analog meter for visual indications and listen through the built-in speaker or headphone jack for auditory feedback. Faulty sections will show abnormal signal behavior, helping you isolate problems.

Q: What types of signals and frequency ranges can this device trace?

A: The Signal Tracer is capable of tracing audio and radio frequency signals within the 20 Hz to 200 kHz range, making it ideal for testing and troubleshooting a wide array of audio and RF electronic components and circuits.

Q: When should I use the speaker versus the headphone jack?

A: Use the built-in speaker for quick, immediate sound feedback when the environment allows. When working in noisy environments or needing to monitor low-level signals more closely, the headphone jack offers clearer, more focused audio output.

Q: Where can the Signal Tracer be operated safely?

A: You can operate this Signal Tracer both in the lab or out in the field, thanks to its portable handheld design, battery operation, and ability to withstand humidity levels up to 85% RH within temperature ranges of 0C to 50C.

Q: What benefits does the overload protected input provide?

A: The overload protected input safeguards the devices internal circuitry from excessive signals or accidental high-voltage connections, ensuring long-term durability and reliable measurement performance.

Q: How is the Signal Tracer powered and what are my options?

A: You can power the Signal Tracer using a standard 9V battery for portable applications or use a 220V AC supply via an adapter for continuous use in stationary setups.

Q: What is the process for testing a component using this Signal Tracer?

A: To test a component, connect the probe to the signal path at one lead of the suspected component, observe the output on the analog meter and listen for audio indications. A healthy component should display and output the expected signal, while a faulty component will show irregular or absent readings, guiding you in the troubleshooting process.
